Helping Hand for Lisa Worme

Donation protected

This past February, Lisa sustained a severe injury to her shoulder at a concert she was attending. A ramp at the event showcasing a vehicle was not adequately lit nor cordoned off, in an area with a large amount of foot traffic. What started off as a fun night out quickly turned into a rather unfortunate series of events. She tripped on the ramp and fell, and sustained a four-part fracture of the head of her humerus with dislocation and nerve damage. In other words, her left arm was suddenly out of commission. She required emergency surgery and is left with a metal plate and 9 screws holding her bits of bone together.

The past 4 months have been spent in recuperation and regular physiotherapy, as well as coming to terms with the fact that she will probably never regain a full range of motion in her left arm. To date, Lisa has only recovered very slight use of her arm and there is no end in sight to the therapy needed. She continues to require (with much reluctancy) assistance from her family for simple everyday tasks. Both her surgeon and physiotherapist rank her case as one of the worst they have treated.

As you may imagine, her medical bills and other related expenses have piled up and continue to rise at an alarming rate. Lisa continues to require physiotherapy thrice weekly (possibly for the next year), doctor consultations, x-rays, medication and home assistance. At the time of the original surgery it was explained to us that there was a 50% chance that a future shoulder replacement surgery may be required (cost not included in the current goal figure), and we fear the odds may be worsened with insufficient physiotherapy. The most pressing costs are to cover the critical physiotherapy which cannot be put off, and we are hoping to use this gofundme in conjunction with the benefit event "One Starry Night" to raise funds by August 18th 2018. So far, her health insurance has made it clear that they consider the injury to be a third party claim and they will therefore not be accepting any liability. Neither will the Barbadian public healthcare support these expenses or the level of physiotherapy required (Lisa is a Barbadian citizen residing in Barbados). Additionally, other parties involved have not accepted liability to date either. Any settlement may potentially take years to be sorted, if any is forthcoming at all, and our family is therefore putting our best foot forward to help Lisa.

Please help the effort for our mum, sister, daughter, colleague and friend.

We, Lisa’s family, would like to extend a huge thank you in advance to all who support.
