Helping hand for Kelly Locke
Donation protected
On October 18, 2018 our daughter in law decided that sliced avocado would be nice on the salads she was making for a family lunch. The knife slipped, stabbing almost an inch into the web of the fingers of her left hand, causing massive damage.
The first surgery did not go well. Kelly's hand has contracted and frozen in place. Also, she developed a post operative condition known as RSD / CRPS (Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy / Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome) which requires weekly outpatient infusions to prepare for the upcoming surgery #2 scheduled for June 11th, 2019.
So far, a total of 3 additional surgeries, multiple treatments and a lengthy physical therapy are the plan of action to address these potentially debilitating issues.
Since the loss of use of her hand and the atrophy of her arm, Kelly has been forced onto unpaid disability; so her family is down to one income to pay for all out of pocket medical costs not covered by insurance as well as their regular monthly expenses.
Unpaid disability means that Kelly has to pay $900.00 per month to cover COBRA insurance; and she will be unable to return to work for another 6-12 months following surgery.
There's also a $3,200.00 deductible that must be paid prior to Kelly's June 11th surgery.
There are also out of pocket expenses for her weekly treatments and physical therapy that help to calm the CRPS so that doctors can treat without spreading the condition to other limbs.
Family, friends and our Church have helped greatly to help Kelly heal and get back to nursing others again (her profession); but we need additional resources to help Kelly and her family get through this tough season.
