A mere four years ago, a group of dedicated parents and students founded the Hamilton High School lacrosse program. Hamilton is, under the LAUSD's vernacular, a PHBAO school - Predominantly Hispanic, Black, Asian, or other Non-Anglo in central Los Angeles. Many, if not most, of Hamilton's students qualify for free or reduced lunches. The lacrosse teams are representative of the school's population and the players come from all races and socioeconomic statuses.
Hamilton's lacrosse program is unique as it is comprised of two completely different teams - a boys' team and a girls' team (some would say that boys lacrosse and girls lacrosse are almost two completely different sports). Running two programs requires funding in excess of the little assistance received LAUSD. Private funding allows us to provide a small stipend for an assistant coach, supplement the very small stipend LAUSD provides for the head coach, purchase gear, line the field, provide for a medic at our games and attend one or two tournaments each season.
The majority of Hamilton students had no exposure to lacrosse - one of the fastest growing sports in the US - prior to introducing it at the school. However, after only four years of starting the program, Hamilton Lacrosse recently celebrated our first student athlete to be recruited by and commit to a Division 2 college program!! We are hoping to sustain and build this program and create more opportunities for our student-players.
We are asking you for your help as we continue to build this extraordinary program. A contribution at any level is welcome and appreciated. Thank you and, of course, go Yanks!
