HOW TO SURVIVE, WHILE TRYING TO STAY ALIVE????
This is my son, Gregory Allen VanGorp, 36 years of age. He has always been a healthy man, very active father, son, and friend, until the night of March 7th 2019.
Greg had just finished playing in a weekly league when he felt "different". Within a short period of time he experienced sharp painful sensations in his chest area. He was having a heart attack....at age 36, no way. The "widowmaker" heart attack they called it. WHAT???
https://www.healthline.com/health/widowmaker-heart-attack
They quickly put a stent in the 100% blocked artery and sent him to recover. Greg was in much pain for next 12 hours to which they took him back and put the cameras back up his arm to his heart and found the rear artery to the heart was 50% clotted and they found blood clots traveling thru his blood vessels. After 4 days in the hospital and news that his heart was only functioning at 20% of what it should, they released him for home. Not the best move as he ended up back there for another 6 days with fluid around his heart and his lungs.
At 20% the heart is beating so fast it will not allow the blood to be taken in by the heart and pumped thru the arteries the way it was meant to work. Greg's is basically trying very very hard to work but until the fluid (blood) can flow thru the arteries again he cannot begin rehab to try and rebuild some of his heart so he can live a normal life again. (he is currently at 18% after his 2nd hosp stay)
Currently he wears a life vest, a portable defibrillator which can detect if his heart stops and is suppose to restart his heart until he can get to ER. Thankfully it has not had to do that yet, although it has gone off at least once. Very scary, very unfamiliar, and so very sad to watch this young man, full of life, enjoying every moment he can with his 3 daughters, living with the theory if "they could" and no one would get hurt "they did" go from Super Dad to this life changing event.
THE DOCTORS are pretty sure Greg has a blood disorder, in which his blood is very thick and will continue to clot, but we will not know this to be 100% true until his June appt. They (THE DOCTORS) are also talking about a future heart transplant. That would be the worse case scenario we hope.
With this Go Fund Me campaign, I am just trying to help Greg's mindset by helping him keep up on his mortgage, taxes, bills, and down the road prepare for many many medical bills. (he is unable to work with his condition and the defibrillator). Any amount that you feel you could donate would most certainly be appreciated and allow us to focus on rebuilding that heart without the worry of "how do I survive, while I am trying to stay alive". I am a believer the less stress you have while trying to heal from such a tragic experience such as this, the faster you may heal. Stress heals nothing, this we all know. Wish it did.
I thank you for taking the time to read this and for all of you who have taken the time to keep Greg and his family in your thoughts and prayers. Please, take time today to just appreciate life as with my son, you never know when it can change.
Sincerely a Concern Mother
