My name is Jennifer Giraldo
and the reason for this go fund me is for the medicine, treatment and aid to recovery of our mom Gladys Gomez.

I think I can speak for most of us when I say that 2020 coming to an end was a big sigh of relief and the opportunity to start a hopefully, better new year. Unfortunately, for my family, 2020 ended with news we were not prepared to hear and 2021 started on a bad foot (literally!).

On Dec 28th, 2020 our mom, Gladys, received a call from her doctor letting her know the results from her biopsy came back positive for breast cancer. Unfortunately, 6 days later on January 3rd, our mom suffered a fall which resulted in her having a closed displaced trimalleolar fracture of her left ankle. All three bones that form the ankle were broken. Two weeks went by without our mom being able to get surgery due to her ankle being too swollen.

On January 11th, our mom had her doctor’s appointment which confirmed she has stage 2 breast cancer and will be needing surgery. Unfortunately, breast surgery had to be put on hold until she was able to get her ankle surgery first. On January 19th, our mom finally underwent ankle surgery.

Next week, our mom will hopefully be having her breast surgery. The recovery for her ankle will be at least a year. Unfortunately, she has lost her job and will be unable to work again until at least next year. Only one month has gone by and she already used up all of her medical insurance allowance and the amount of x-rays and exams the insurance covers annually. Everything moving forward will be out of pocket.

Our mom is currently immobile from the hip down and now with her upcoming breast surgery, she will be completely immobile for a while. She has been on oxycodone and percocet ever since her injury and is still experiencing a lot of pain. Unfortunately, only hospitalizing her with morphine would work to reduce the pain and we can’t afford that any longer. She will need 24 hour care and insurance no longer can cover anything else, such as the rental of her wheelchair or her physical therapy that need to take place 3 times a week.

We already knew our mom was a strong person, but everything she has experienced this past month has shown us even more how courageous she is. Our mom is a woman who has devoted her entire life to her daughters, grandchildren, and most importantly God. Her strong faith is what keeps her positive and going each day. Everyone that knows my mom knows her generous heart and how she never expects anything in return.

It is now our time to take care of our mom like she has taken care of us. My sisters and I have been trying our best financially but this pandemic has made it much more difficult on the whole family. Any contribution would help her greatly in her road to recovery and of course prayers are always welcomed! Thank you all for taking the time to read our story. God bless you all.

Creo que puedo hablar por la mayoría de
nosotros cuando digo que el final de 2020
fue un gran suspiro de alivio y la oportunidad de comenzar un año nuevo, con suerte y mucho mejor. Desafortunadamente, para mi familia, el año 2020 terminó con noticias que no estábamos preparados para escuchar y 2021 comenzó con un mal pie (¡literalmente!).

El 28 de Diciembre de 2020, nuestra madre, Gladys, recibió una llamada de su médico para informarle que los resultados de su biopsia dieron positivo para cáncer del ceno. Desafortunadamente, 6 días después, el 3 de Enero, nuestra madre sufrió una caída qresultó en una fractura trimaleolar
desplazada cerrada de su tobillo izquierdo. Los tres huesos que forman el tobillo
estaban rotos. Pasaron dos semanas sin
que nuestra mamá pudiera operarse
debido a que su tobillo estaba demasiado
hinchado.

El 11 de Enero, nuestra madre tuvo su cita con el médico que confirmó que tiene
cáncer del ceno en etapa 2 y necesitará
cirugía. Desafortunadamente, tuvo que
suspender la cirugía de mama hasta que se sometiera primero a la cirugía de tobillo. El 19 de Enero, nuestra madre finalmente se
sometió a una cirugía de tobillo.

La semana que viene, esperamos que
nuestra mamá se someta a una cirugía de mama. La recuperación de su tobillo será de
al menos un año. Desafortunadamente, ha perdido su trabajo y no podrá volver a
trabajar hasta al menos el próximo año.
Solo ha pasado un mes y ya ha agotado
todo el subsidio del seguro médico y la
cantidad de radiografías y exámenes que cubre anualmente el seguro. Todo lo que
avance estará de su bolsillo.

Nuestra madre está actualmente inmóvil de la cadera hacia abajo y ahora, con su
próxima cirugía de mama, estará completamente inmóvil por un tiempo. Ella ha
estado tomando oxicodona y percocet desde su lesión y todavía siente mucho dolor. Desafortunadamente, solo hospitalizarla
con morfina funcionaría para reducir el dolor y ya no podemos permitirnos eso. Necesitará atención las 24 horas y el seguro ya no puede cubrir nada más, como el alquiler de su silla de ruedas o su fisioterapia, que debe realizarse 3 veces por semana.

Ya sabíamos que nuestra mamá era una persona fuerte, pero todo lo que ha experimentado el mes pasado nos ha demostrado aún más lo valiente que es. Nuestra madre es
una mujer que ha dedicado toda su vida a
sus hijas, nietos y, lo más importante, a
Dios. Su fuerte fe es lo que la mantiene
positiva cada día. Todos los que conocen a nuestra mamá conocen su corazón
generoso y cómo nunca espera nada a
cambio.

Ahora es nuestro momento de cuidar a nuestra mamá como ella nos ha cuidado a
nosotras. Mis hermanas y yo hemos hecho todo lo posible económicamente, pero esta pandemia lo ha hecho mucho más difícil
para toda la familia. Cualquier contribución la ayudaría mucho en su camino hacia la recuperación y las oraciones siempre son bienvenidas. Gracias a todos por tomarse el
