Helping Gina Help Duke

My very good friend Gina and her horse Duke have been through a very rough 12 months. Duke started with neurological symptoms in February of 2024 and was diagnosed with EPM in August of 2024. Gina immediately started with EPM treatment and ulcer prevention medication. During his treatment, Duke experienced a laminitis flare-up which also had to be addressed. Duke's symptoms subsided slightly following this round of treatment, but he ultimately regressed and has had to be treated two more times since. After his third treatment ended in December of 2024, Gina saw some improvement in Duke, but he unfortunately regressed again two short weeks later. Currently, Gina is only able to do short hand walks with him before he reaches his limit, at which point he becomes explosive. Some days, even simple but necessary tasks are difficult to complete.

Tuesday, February 25th, 2025, the vet came back out for another exam and a scope was performed, revealing grade 3 squamous ulcers. A 30-day treatment of Gastrogard and Sucralfate was prescribed, and another scope will need to be performed to check the progress. The last year has been extremely hard for Duke, as well as emotionally and financially draining for Gina. While going through all of this, Gina is in the midst of planning her wedding with her amazing and supportive fiancé, David. My hope is to raise some funds for Gina so that she can continue to treat Duke with less financial strain, enjoy an amazing last month of wedding planning with David, and get Duke comfortable again!
