Helping Gilbert get better

Donation protected
Gilbert was severely injured from a fall while working. He is currently in Roanoke Memorial in critical condition. He had internal bleeding and broke both legs. He will be in the hospital for a couple weeks and then will have to go to an assisted living facility for rehab for a few months. This is going to be a long rough road to recovery for him.

DETAILS ALONG WITH AN UPDATE...

Hey guys and gals... This is my dad, he had a terrible accident a week ago today. I know most of you know what happened but for those of you who don't here's the run down as well as an update... On Wednesday February 28th my dad was working on setting trusses from 10-12 feet high. He substained some very serious injuries that consists of 2 broke legs, all broke ribs on his left side and several internal injuries. Day 1 - The night of the accident he had a 6 1/2 hour surgery that consisted of removing his spleen, part of his colon and part of his pancreas. They left 2 drain tubes in his side to keep blood from building up inside of him. They ended up leaving the ventilator in to do his breathing.

Day 2 - He slept.

Day 3 - He had another operation on both of his legs that took another 4ish hours where they put a rod and pins in his left leg and plates with screws in his right leg. The good news with that is they don't anticipate there needing to be any more surgeries on his legs YEY!!!

Day 4 - He slept

Day 5 - They took him off the ventilator and moved him from the ICU to PCU (Progressive Care Unit).

Day 6 - There's been some ups and downs with his blood pressure, high temperatures, not eating etc over the last couple of days so we've been working on getting those things regulated.

Day 7 - Dad had another rough day but they did get to start his physical and occupational therapy. He did good with that but it exhausted him.

He's definitely making strides in the right direction but man oh man what a challenge its been.

Here we are on day 8. He has just had his therapy for the day and did fantastic but it left him exhausted and nauseated. So dad has spiked a fever today and is still not eating what they want him to but I feel like that's coming too. They took him down for a CT scan and found that he has some fluid build up where they removed his spleen and a small blood clot in his lung. They have started him on a Heparin drip which is a blood thinner for that and they have scheduled him to have the fluid drained first thing in the morning. Please pray that that helps with the fever and the hiccups he's had for 3 days. As we all know if he doesn't start eating that means it's feeding tube time.

Again, we want to thank each and everyone of you for all your love, prayers, thoughts, texts and calls, without them this road would seem nearly impossible. Much love to all of you!!
