Gauge was born on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at UPMC Passavant in Cranberry. He was born at 30 weeks premature weighing only 3 lbs 11 oz and stretching out 18 inches long!
He was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at 11 months old and has been defying the odds ever since. Gauge is now 3 years old and finally getting into socializing with other kids his age. He is doing outpatient therapy 3 days a week; PT, OT, and speech.
The reason we need assistance with these funds is because Gauge's insurance has denied us coverage. They say these items aren't medically necessary, but for a kid who hasn't been able to even stand up with other kids his age - I feel these are very much necessary. I want my child to have the best equipment to help him grow and develop along with other children his age.
Gauge requires special equipment to assist him with tasks that may seem simple to other 3 year old's. A few of his struggles consist of standing up at eye level with other children, riding in a wagon, and even sitting up in the sand at the beach on family trips.
This fundraiser is to help raise money for medical equipment that is essential to Gauge's growth and development. We would really like to get him set up with 3 new tools to use over the next year, or until he grows out of them!
The most supportive tool for him right now is a Firefly GoTo Seat. It is a safe, supportive, lightweight and portable seat designed to provide additional upper body postural support for children with disabilities aged 1-8 years old. The most important feature of this seat is the portability, between therapy sessions and weekend trips to visit Pappy the GoTo seat will fold up easily to bring anywhere he wants to go!
Another item on his list is a Firefly Upsee Mobility Harness. Upsee is a mobility harness designed to allow children with motor impairment to stand and move with the help of an adult. It allows children with special needs to experience upright movement like anyone else. Some have been able to stand and hug their little brother or sister for the first time. And some crossed the playground hand-in-hand with their best friend for the very first time. This will allow Gauge the opportunity to socialize with kids his age, like he never has before.
The last item is the Firefly Splashy Portable Bath Seat. Splashy is a multipurpose bath seat making bath-time easier and tons more fun for families of kids with special needs. It's a portable, lightweight and supportive seat that works for bathing or messy games wherever you go. It's really compact and sits nice and low in the bath, so it uses less space and less water it's lightweight, detachable parts make it easy to clean. This will help improve Gauge's tub time and allow him to stay with Pappy or go camping in Erie with his family for a whole weekend!
