So many of you have been so very supportive of me through my battle with primary peritoneal cancer and many have asked if there is anything more you could do. There have been some recent updates in my journey, so I thought I would share what is happening and that we do have a financial need.
As most of you know I was originally diagnosed on July 7, 2018. I did 6 months of chemotherapy and was in remission in December. In April I received the disheartening news that the cancer was back! My doctor suggested that I treat it with the less strong of the two drugs we used before. At the time, I felt chemo was not the best strategy, but she told me if I did not do something that I may lose my battle in 6 months. So, we proceeded with the treatment and I continued to investigate and research alternative treatments. This last week when I went back to my doctor, my numbers were elevated and they found two more tumors on my colon. My doctor said that the cancer has become immune to the chemo drug, and the treatments I started in April have had no effect on the cancer. She said we have one more drug to try, and she also suggested that if I had found other alternatives that I should try them in addition to trying this last drug. In other words, we are running out of options and I am in a life or death battle. However, I still believe my God is bigger than cancer, and I WILL BE HEALED.
One of the alternatives that has been successful in some trials and in other states in the US is the use of mistletoe. There are no places in Texas that are doing this treatment, and the closest facility to me is in Durango, Colorado at a clinic called Namaste Health Center. Dr. Stacey Mulkey is the leading doctor in this alternative approach and has had a high success rate of killing the cancer. This is where your help is needed.
Because this treatment is not FDA approved, it is not covered by insurance. The initial treatment requires me to go to Durango for three weeks so they can personalize my care and monitor my mistletoe infusions. I can not be given the infusions in Texas because the state of Texas does not allow doctors to monitor non FDA approved treatments; however, not all states have the same law. Having to ask for help is very hard for me because I live to be a lender and not a borrower, but the cancer treatments that I am believing are the answer to my healing are not covered by insurance and this situation with my health has put a tremendous strain on our finances. I am asking those of you who have offered to help to please consider a donation to help us with the costs. Jim is still working, but his work has slowed down some due to him being my caregiver during this past year. Cancer has not only attacked my body, but it attacks every aspect of your life and well being. July 7th will be one year from my diagnosis and it is also my birthday. I can think of no other better present than to be able to afford to go to Durango and begin my treatments. I sincerely believe that this is where God is leading me. I am praying that that through my healing, my doctor will want to bring this trial to Texas and many more will be healed as a result. Once I am healed, I intend to be a crusader for the cure. The research for this cancer and ovarian cancer is severely under funded. Ovarian cancer, Fallopian Tube, and Primary Peritoneal cancer are very hard to detect and most find it when it is at a Stage 3 or Stage 4. The medications and chemotherapy that they are using today is the same they have used since the 1960's and very little progress has been made in detection or treatment. The alternative methods have been the only ones that have kept people alive beyond the estimated survival rate of 1-3 years from diagnosis. The current FDA medications have only kept it contained to extend life for a very small amount of time. I am NOT DONE LIVING!
There is too much that still needs to be done for the kingdom of God. I pray that God will bless you all mightily and return your gift back to you one hundred fold. Thank you all so much for your love, prayers, and thoughtfulness. It has not gone unnoticed, and I love you all so much! God Bless you and thank you for your support!
