Hello, my name is Sara Salama. I am a young mother from Gaza, 25 years old, married and the mother of my little baby girl, Hoor Ahmed Abu Sweirih, who is only two months old. She suffers from a cleft lip and palate and urgently needs surgery and specialized medical care abroad, as there are no proper medical facilities available in Gaza.
My baby’s birth defect is a result of me being exposed to toxic rocket fumes, chemicals, and gunpowder smoke during the war.
My family consists of my elderly parents (my mother, Suad Salama, 51 years old, who has diabetes and suffers from a lack of medicine and proper food; and my father, Suhail Salama, 48 years old, who suffers from high blood pressure and a herniated disc), my husband Ahmed, 28 years old, who lost his job due to the war, and my siblings: Jumana (22 years old), who was deprived of finishing her university education; Omayma (18 years old); Shaimaa (11 years old); Omar (14 years old); and my twin brothers, Mohammed and Ibrahim (7 years old).
We currently live in Al-Nuseirat camp in Gaza and wait in long charity food lines every day just to get enough to survive.
For more than 600 days, Gaza has been under relentless war. My family and I have lived in constant fear, anxiety, and deprivation. The war destroyed our lives, took away our livelihood, and turned our home into misery. A neighboring house was targeted, causing severe damage to our own house and making it barely livable. Now, we struggle every day for the most basic needs: water, food, safety, and security.
My baby and my siblings suffer not only from physical deprivation but also from deep psychological and emotional trauma in a place with no schools, no proper healthcare, no electricity… and worst of all, no hope if we remain here.
After long nights of thinking and many tearful discussions full of hope, my husband, my parents, and I decided that the only way to save our future is to leave Gaza and start over in a safer place.
But we cannot do this alone. We need $150,000 to cover all expenses:
$66,000 for leaving Gaza ($6,000 per person)
$12,000 for travel from Egypt to Europe
$70,000 for housing and living expenses abroad for a year and a half
$5,000 for GoFundMe transaction fees (2.9% + $0.30 per donation).
Leaving Gaza is not an easy decision. It means saying goodbye to the place we have always called home, to the dreams and hopes we built there, and to the people we love.
But it is a decision born from the love of a mother who dreams of seeing her daughter and siblings grow up free from fear, hunger, and the threat of war.
By donating to our campaign, you are giving us a chance to survive and rebuild our lives. Your donation, no matter how big or small, means safety, dignity, and hope for us.
This campaign is kindly supported by my dear friend Nada and her family in Italy, and the funds will be transferred to me through my bank account once received.
Please help us escape the darkness of war and reach the light of safety. Your prayers and generosity are our only hope for survival. May God bless you all.
❤️ Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who reads our story and gives us hope.
