Help Rebuild Release’s Family Home After Hurricane Melissa

Donation protected

Hello, my name is Andrew Pryce. I was born and raised in Cambridge, Jamaica—a small rural community that was hit devastatingly hard by Hurricane Melissa, the Category 5 storm that left widespread destruction in its wake.

While my own childhood home is still standing, many of my family members and neighbours have lost nearly everything—including my cousin and best friend, Release [Tomar Davis] with his wife Claudia, their 8-year-old daughter and 19-year-old son.

Release is more than family to me. He is the person I talk to for hours every week, the person whose kids I help support with school fees and groceries, and someone who has always done the best he can with very little. But nothing could have prepared him—or our community—for this hurricane.

What Happened

The storm severely damaged their small board house, tore off most of the tin roof, and left them with no power, food or drinking water.

Release’s only means of income—his taxi—was also totalled in the storm.

Cambridge is now in crisis:

Many homes have collapsed
Roads have been washed out
Food and clean water are scarce
The community remains without power
Communication is sporadic and heartbreaking

This is a place where families were already struggling day-to-day. Now, survival is even harder.

Why I’m Asking for Your Help

When the hurricane hit, I felt completely helpless. Friends and family here in Canada began asking how they could support Cambridge. After thinking carefully about where help would make the most immediate difference, I decided to focus on the repair and rebuilding one home — the home of the family I know best, who has absolutely no way to rebuild on their own.

This fundraiser will help:

Repair and rebuild a safe, sturdy home for Release and his family
Replace essential items like clothing and school supplies
Restore stability so the kids can continue their education
Support a family who has lost everything

Our Goal
We are hoping to raise $10,000 to help repair their home and restore basic essentials.

Every dollar—truly, even $5—will help this family begin again.

How Funds Will Be Used

We promise that:

100% of donations will go directly to repairing and rebuilding Release’s home and replacing essentials
We will provide updates, photos, and videos as rebuilding begins
We will maintain full transparency every step of the way

GRATITUDE

I cannot express how much your support means—not only to Release, but to the entire Cambridge community. Your kindness will directly change the life of a family who has lost everything but hope.

Thank you for reading, sharing, and supporting in any way you can.

With gratitude,

Andrew Pryce
