My name is Eric Torres. I’m 57 years old, living in Valencia, Spain—and I’m facing homelessness in a matter of weeks, despite doing everything legally.
I moved to Spain in April 2025 on a valid student visa, following an immigration path that was clearly presented to me. Midway through the process, the law changed. That path disappeared, and with it my legal authorization to work.
I am now considered “sin papeles” (without work authorization).
Under Spanish law, I must wait until April 2027 to apply for residency. Until then, I am not allowed to work legally. My savings are gone after paying for the failed visa process, rent, and basic survival.
I’m currently renting a single room, but with no income and no right to work, I am at risk of losing housing within weeks.
This fundraiser isn’t about avoiding work or long-term support.
What I am asking for is help to survive a gap created by a legal change I could not control.
What your support covers (3 months):
Rent through April: $1,650
Food and basic needs: $900
Emergency medical support (malnutrition, declining health): $500
Total goal: $3,050
This support will allow me to remain housed, stabilize my health, complete required residency registration, access training tied to future work authorization, and continue building remote income streams that don’t require Spanish work papers (already underway).
Once I receive legal authorization, I can support myself. I have strong English skills, customer service experience, and technical aptitude—and I am actively pursuing international remote work.
I’m not giving up. I just need help getting through a waiting period the law created.
Thank you for reading, sharing, or contributing, any amount truly helps.
