Hi everyone, thank you for being here. If you follow Emmy, you know she’s a fighter, but she’s currently facing her biggest challenge yet.
Emmy has reached a critical point with her health. Recent scans have shown that she has no cartilage left in her elbows. It is effectively bone-on-bone rubbing, and the bone itself is wearing down. Every step she takes is a struggle; her gait is worsening, and she is in constant discomfort.
We tried everything else first before reaching this decision, we exhausted every other option to spare Emmy from major surgery. A few months ago, we pinned our hopes on Plateau-Rich Plasma (PRP) injections. We hoped these would provide the cushioning and healing her elbows desperately needed. Sadly, because the damage is so advanced and the cartilage is entirely gone, the injections had no effect. It was a heartbreaking realisation that "maintenance" is no longer an option and repair is the only way forward.
We have been told by our specialist veterinary surgeon that Canine Unicompartmental Elbow (CUE) surgery is her only real lifeline. This surgery involves implants that will act as a buffer, stopping that painful bone-on-bone friction. These implants are designed to last for the rest of her life, meaning this surgery isn’t just a "quick fix" but it’s a permanent path to a pain-free life.
Because this is a major procedure, the surgery will be staged. Her first elbow is booked for April 28th. Depending on her recovery, the second elbow will follow 6 to 12 weeks later. While it takes 5 to 6 months to see the full benefit as her muscle strength returns, getting this done now is vital and her only window before it’s beyond the point of no return.
Why do we need your help? We have insurance, but we’ve hit a devastating roadblock. Our policy caps claims at £3,500 per month. However, the cost of the surgery is £7,500 per elbow.
Even with our insurance contributing its maximum, we are left with a massive shortfall for each surgery, plus the costs of specialist aftercare and rehabilitation.
If we were only managing Emmy, we might be able to cover at least some of the cost after insurance. But we are simultaneously managing Humphrey’s complex needs, and between his endless medications, vet visits, and therapies, our funds are exhausted.
Emmy has so much life left to live, and we want those years to be comfortable. We are asking our incredible community to help us bridge this gap. Any donation, no matter how small, goes directly toward Emmy’s "new elbows" and her journey to walking pain-free.
Thank you for loving her as much as we do.
Forever grateful ❤️
