My sister Emilia (Mila) has experienced more hardship than most people have to endure in a lifetime.
Just one year after losing our father to cancer at the age of 66, Mila's husband Jim passed away unexpectedly of a heart condition on May 31, 2013. Mila was just 43 at the time and their children Sarah and Zack were just 13 and 16.
In the 7 years since Jim's passing, Mila has been a pillar of strength for her family. She has done an amazing job raising Sarah and Zack as a single mother, she reentered the workforce, and she found a way to pay for their living expenses and college tuition.
Today, Mila is facing a new challenge. She was diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma 18 months ago and we learned this month (August 2020) that it has returned.
As I write this, she is at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston awaiting surgery to remove a tumor in her lung. The biopsy and tests that proceeded the surgery, the surgery itself, and the considerable road to recovery have added a heavy load to her already strained emotional and financial situation.
The last thing Mila needs right now is to be stressing about how to pay for co-pays and co-insurance bills. She needs to focus on her health and her family. Please consider donating to help offset her medical and other unexpected expenses. And please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.
