Helping Edenia Maldonado Fight the battle

I met Edenia, when I first came to work at Adventist Health Ukiah Valley Hospital.  I have always admired her for her strong work ethic and genuine personality.
Unfortunately, she has been battling with cancer and undergoing treatment for the past 2 years.  She has been through chemotherapy, radiation, and multiple surgeries.
It has been a long, daunting road full of twist and turns.  She has gone through so many different emotions as she has been through the initial discovery of her illness,  testing, and treatments. The financial burden has been overwhelming due to her inability to work.  Edenia is at a crossroads in her life, as she still needs to heal, yet also needing to work to survive. It is at this time that I share with you that she needs our help.  As a community we can come together and assist her, with the financial burdens that have stacked up in the past 2 years and the ones that lie ahead.  This will allow Edenia to focus on health and recovery, eliminating some of her stress in knowing there is one less thing to worry about.

She has always been one of my favorite nursing assistants, always ready to help and support me with my patients while they are undergoing physical therapy.  I can genuinely say that she enjoys her job because it shows in her work.  In Spanish I would describe her as a “Luchadora “working more than one job to make ends meet.    Edenia has been raising her 3 children and this has not always been easy.  However, she has always stepped up to the plate to be a strong provider for her family.  During this time her eldest son has had to get a job to help the family, instead of pursuing college.

Here are some fun facts about Edenia; she has worked at Adventist Health Ukiah Valley for 16 years, enjoys hiking, cooking drawing, knitting, and sewing.   She is one of the rare people I know who LOVES to clean and organize.   She truly has this gift and it shows in her work.

Edenia told me the most important thing she is focusing on has been supporting the education of her children.

As we head into the holidays let’s come together and help ease her burden by making this season a blessing for Edenia and her children.

We thank you for your generosity in helping Edenia and her family.
