Helping Dusty is a Musty
Donation protected
For starters, I want to address the fact that it is absolute crap that in the wealthiest nation on the planet in 2021, we have to ask for help from one another when someone is in need of medical attention...
That being said, I am here to ask for your help.
Dusty Meyer, dog-father to Ollie and friend to all, fell in his apartment on 12/29 and believed he had thrown out his back. After several days of being unable to move without help, he was taken to the ER on 12/31 and x-rays showed he had a fracture between his L2 & L3 vertebrae. He was also diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a rare genetic type of spinal arthritis which causes brittle bones that break easily causing the body to fuse vertebrae together in a painful attempt to heal. (Not ideal for a cosmetologist on their feet all day).
He was transported to St. Louis University Hospital for further testing, underwent back surgery on January 3rd, and will be discharged in a few days. While we don't know the total cost, obviously he will have a significant amount of medical bills and will not be able to return to his job as a cosmetologist at Medusa's Salon in Soulard for quite a while. He and Ollie will be staying with a friend for the foreseeable future, as he still will not be able to move on his own.
He, like so many other gig workers in 2020, already was forced to burn through his savings to stay afloat during lockdown and now is starting 2021 unable to work and with an untold amount of medical bills. I'm estimating his monthly bills around $1000/mo plus living expenses, and would like to raise enough to get him through a month of recovery without stressing about affording his rent or phone.
I know there are many people out there who aren't in the position to have anything to share at the moment, but if you are fortunate to have extra and feel compelled to donate, I know Dusty could use every penny and every ounce of support possible.
Dusty is not aware that we are setting this fund up, however I know he appreciates every donation or kind thought sent his way.
Here's to hoping 2021 only gets better from here.
