I'm sharing an update on our family member, Doug Johnson. Married to our Diana for 29 years, Doug suffered a series of strokes while out of the US. Having grown up at the Jersey Shore, Doug loves nothing better than his family and being on the water, especially with Diana.

 

With the kids grown, they had started taking those "trips you put off" and were in Costa Rica. Doug suffered a major stroke and was unable to receive medical treatment for a prolonged amount of time. After a week of major medical support, and in a medically induced coma, he returned to the US via a very costly medical air transport on a ventilator. He has defied ALL odds and after his ICU stay while hospitalized in NJ, has been moved to a rehab facility where he is working hard. We have learned that he will need 24/7 support for many daily functions when he likely returns home in 4 weeks.

 

Even with insurance, care up to this point has required out of pocket medical payments in full and cash payment for the medical transport. It was worth it so he could return to his children, his grandchildren, Diana, and all that is ahead.

 

A proud and hardworking family, resources will still make a difference. The family has reluctantly accepted our suggestion, across families and friends, to allow us to all support Doug. How often do we say, "How can we help?" and feel helpless when we see all that others are carrying.

 

Support in whatever form will assist the family as they cover their medical bills, while trying to navigate all that is not covered by insurance when he comes home. Doug was self-employed as an engineer and will be unable to work for an undetermined amount of time.
