Hi, folks. I'm Elaine Miller. I'm asking for help on behalf of DJ Hicks, who is a member of my chosen family, and who has just lost his partner Susan.

Susan Craigie passed away on Friday August 22. She was 66 years old. She died at home in bed from a stroke, and was found by DJ, her partner of 24 years.

DJ is on disability assistance, and Susan was retired. They lived on a very sparse income, and so the sudden and devastating loss of his wife *also* hits DJ in ways both financial and logistical.

In a complicating circumstance, they have a house move planned October 1st (due to a planned development / demolition of their rental home) and, well, that makes a hard time much harder. It’s a subsidized, accessible suite, and it’s important that we make this deadline!

I've started this GoFundMe in hope of collecting funds to:

1) support DJ during this time of sudden loss and change

2) enable DJ to hire movers, a vehicle, and get some able-bodied help for the move preparation and after-cleaning. He’s not able to do much bending and lifting at all.

and finally...

3) DJ will hold a Celebration of Life for Susan in December of this year. Any funds collected that aren’t used for interim emergency expenses or the big house move, will go towards the expenses for this event.
