Help our cousin win this battle

Our cousin Diego is from El Salvador and has been diagnosed with Lung cancer stage four. The cancer has spread to his ribs; not only it’s an aggressive type of cancer but physically is very painful. Diego is a bright, positive, strong, loving and a caring human being, with the love of his two beautiful kids, his wife, his devoted parents and the unwavering support of family and friends, he finds strength every day to fight this battle and look for that positive outcome. He’s constantly teaching us about resilience, love, and faith in god.

This past year has hit all of us hard, and isolation has prevented many of us from following up with what we sometimes think are minor pains and aches. Diego started with a minor backache that progressed about 7 months ago, we thought he was going to have to do some physiotherapy or manage the issue with pain medication, but it March he was initially diagnosed with a tumor. Many visits to the doctors follow and one after the other brought distressing news. The doctors discovered more tumors, more lesions in his ribs and the final diagnosis revealed an aggressive form of lung cancer, that had spread to his ribcage. After a short stay in the hospital his doctor advice him that at this point an operation would not be possible due to the speed that the cancer it’s evolving.

He was told that the best course of action is to immediately start chemotherapy in conjunction with radiotherapy and immunotherapy to follow.

At this point our cousin is no longer able to work or perform some of the basic tasks of his daily routine, from sitting down for a full meal, to caring his kids in his arms, driving, or going to church. He started chemotherapy yesterday and he will need to travel about 4 hours every day to get to the hospital. He has lost his job due to his health issues and much help is needed to tackle the financial burdens that he will be facing for the foreseeable future as he literally fights for his life.

Our family has rounded around him to help with anything we can possibly can, from scheduling, to gathering funds, to arranging for transportation, asking time off to take him to his appointments, taking care of his beautiful kids and making sure they’re also safe around this time. But treatments are very expensive and as it’s known, El Salvador lacks adequate health system, infrastructure, and medication.

The immunotherapy will be 10,000$ each round and he will require 6 of them. Your contributions will principally go towards this treatment and other expenses like travel to the clinic, prescriptions and treatment costs and assisting with basic living expenses.

Diego has a long road ahead of him and we are confident that with your help, the love of our family and God, he will walk trough this difficult times. Hola a Todos,

Nuestro primo Diego es de El Salvador y fue diagnosticado con Cancer en los pulmones nivel 4, el cancer se ha esparcido hacia sus costillas. No solamente es un cancer bastante agresivo si no también muy doloroso. Diego es excepcional, positivo, fuerte y un amoroso ser humano. Con el amor de sus dos inocentes y bellos hijos, su esposa, sus dedicados padres, todos sus familiares y sus amigos ha encontrado la fuerza necesaria día a día para pelear esta batalla y siempre ver ese milagro como realidad. El siempre nos esta mostrando esa motivación, amor y lo mas importante FE EN DIOS que de esta situación saldremos juntos y de la mano.

Este ultimo año fuimos golpeados duramente y el encierro nos privo a muchos de nosotros darle seguimiento a situaciones o dolores que en su momento para nosotros eran menores. Diego inició todo esto con dolores de espalda menores que poco a poco fueron incrementando el alto porcentaje de dolor, Todo esto inicio 7 meses atrás en el cual por restricciones de salud se pensó que solo iba a necesitar fisioterapia o algún tipo de medicamento para el dolor, pero en Marzo de este año el fue diagnosticado oficialmente con un tumor.

Fueron muchísimas visitas a los medicos y una tras otra con noticias destrozadoras, los doctores descubrieron mas tumores, mas lesiones en sus costillas y como diagnostico final un cancer agresivo que se había esparcido hacia toda su caja toráxica. Después de esta corta visita al doctor fue comunicado que una operación no iba a ser posible por la velocidad con la que el cancer se había esparcido y Diego fue comunicado que la mejor ruta era iniciar con quimioterapias, radioterapias y por consiguiente inmunoterapias.

En este punto Diego no esta en las condiciones de realizar actividades normales que realizaba en su día a día, como asistir a su trabajo, sentarse para comer, poder compartir con sus hijos o poder asistir a la Iglesia como lo hacia antes de su enfermedad. Inicio quimioterapias ya hace dos semanas y necesitara viajar alrededor de 3 horas diarias, Durante todo este proceso el perdio su trabajo y muchísima ayuda es necesaria para combatir las necesidades económicas durante su enfermedad y lo mas importante para luchar por su vida. Como familia estamos ayudando y apoyando en lo posible como agendandonos, recolectando fondos, tomado tiempo para estar con el en sus necesidades, cuidando los niños. Pero los tratamientos son bastantes caros y como muchos sabemos El Salvador tiene una deficiencia en cuanto al sistema de salud y medicación.

La inmunoterapia costara alrededor de $10,000 por visita y serán necesarias 6 visitas. Tu ayuda y contribución sera dirigida principalmente a los tratamientos, otros gastos como transporte hacia el Hospital y medicamentos.

Diego tiene un camino largo por recorrer y estamos convencidos que con tu ayuda, el amor de nuestra familia y Dios, el saldrá adelante de estos tiempos difíciles.
