Helping Devin Honor Sylvia’s Legacy

Kiende “Sylvia” Njue was one of a kind. If you knew her, you were lucky — and if she hugged you, you knew you were loved. She wasn’t one for affection, but when she finally let you in, it was something special.

After a courageous month in the hospital, Sylvia passed away at the age of 44, surrounded by love. Her devoted fiancé, Devin, was by her side — just as he had been for the last 23 years. They met at Capital One, where Sylvia spent most of her career and where many of her coworkers became her closest friends — her chosen family.

Originally from Kenya, Sylvia came to the U.S. at 18, first landing in New York before settling in Dallas-Fort Worth. Her wit, strength, and quiet warmth touched everyone around her. She lit up rooms without trying and left an imprint on hearts that will never fade.

This fundraiser has been created to support Devin during this incredibly difficult time. Funds will help cover the unexpected expenses of laying Sylvia’s ashes to rest in her homeland of Kenya, and assist with ongoing financial burdens related to her care.

Sylvia would never have asked for this kind of attention — but the outpouring of love in the final days of her life was proof of how deeply she was cherished. This is our chance to show that same love back, by helping Devin carry out her final wishes and navigate the path ahead.
