Helping Dean and His Dog, Harvey
Donation protected
I'm Dean's dad and believe he is not getting a fair shake. He is currently incarcerated in the Tarrant County Detention Center for various charges stemming from being assaulted by a family member. On top of it all, his dog, Harvey is in "jail" because he was trying to defend Dean and was eventually tazed. We have already paid Harvey's bail and will get him next Friday. Dean, however, is not so lucky. We don't have the money for his bail and he continues to be without his medications; he is bi-polar. In spite of experiencing brain zaps, diarrhea, nausea, itching over his entire body, thoughts of suicide, and our continued pleas, he has not been seen by the MHMR staff for evaluation and his medications.
The picture you see is what he looked like after the family member assaulted him; cut above the left eye, bitten, having his hair pulled by literally hanging on it, and being ridden on his back while that person pulled his mouth as hard as possible. This was not only told to us by Dean, but also the family member who was proud of what was done and even said that since he liked the Joker, the member was trying to make him look like like him. Dean tried to defend himself, resulting in the assault charge. The family member's father stated he was proud of how his kid, who is an adult, reacted.
,
So, why would you want to help an inmate? Dean needs to be in a different environment in order to maintain an even keel. He truly is not guilty of this assault but has already been told by his family that it is four against one. Yes, his family turned on him.
What the money will be used for is his bail, and that is all we ask. We need the funds, soon, in order to get him the medical help he needs. If there is any money above this amount, it's to hire a lawyer rather than using court-appointed. What we have discovered is that families of loved ones in jail are also punished. While we can't afford it, so far it is costing us about $75.00/day in phone calls, setting up accounts so he can have personal items such as soap and toothpaste as well as being able to send and receive communications.
We have been working with Dean for over a year to get him on track to be able to live a more normal and productive life. This past year Dean has been working as an electrical apprentice. We would be most thankful to have that happen for our son and have seen him happy to be productive when he is on his own. However, the current situation will only serve to set him back and may actually negatively impact him for the rest of his life.
Message from his Mom: This past year he has made great progress. He went from experiencing suicidal ideations and lack of happiness to becoming happy and setting some goals. When he is off his medications it's difficult for him to focus and depression happens. Dean was in Ft. Worth to help his family and their church using his experience as a carpenter. His dog helps in keeping him calm and means so much to him; Harvey is really Dean's anchor.
Thank you for your consideration and generosity.
