Supporting Lorraine

Rick and Lorraine were High School Sweethearts. They met and fell in love in San Diego, California, and although they have lived in many places, it was always there that they considered home. In over 40 years of marriage, they raised six bright and clever children, which allowed them to be loving and doting grandparents for 11 grandchildren to date, and a twelfth on the way.

Time marches on, however, and with it often comes unforeseen health complications. In July of 2021, Rick was unexpectedly diagnosed with Stage 3 Liver Cancer. Though treatment began quickly, little could be done to stop or slow the inevitable. The sickness progressed more quickly than there was time to plan or react. The following weeks were tumultuous, unpredictable, and terrifying. On September 12th, the sun rose on their 44th Wedding Anniversary. Lorraine roused Rick enough to tell him how much she loved him and thank him for coming so far at her side. The house was full of the sounds of his family's voices and the smell of freshly ground coffee brewing and bacon frying. With happiness in his heart, Rick let go.

The couple was living near Austin, TX, far from the love and support of their sprawling family. Rick's sudden illness and even more sudden loss has left Lorraine alone with his remaining medical bills, funeral costs, and a forlorn desire to return to San Diego and the family who mourns with her, to be with them as they learn to accept this loss together, and to be present when her newest grandchild comes into the world. With your help, a sudden, rough transition can be eased and Lorraine can put a painful time behind her. We would like to see the financial stresses on her shoulders reduced so that she can look back with love and fondness, returned home with the family she and Rick raised and loved together.
