Helping Courtney with Stage 3 Thyroid Cancer

Over Summer Courtney noticed her lymph node protruding out of her neck. Being a childhood neuroblastoma cancer survivor her last PET scan was in 2018.
In October she had to pay for a pricey surgery of removing & taking a biopsy of one lymph node on her teachers salary. Even with insurance this is QUITE expensive.
The biopsy revealed that she had thyroid cancer and it had to be removed, which is quite routine. She will be on medication to produce the thyroid hormone for the rest of her life.
She went in for this surgery on 11/13 where she was under for 7 hours (two longer than expected) because her surgeon found a lot more than expected. She had cancer in her neck muscles, veins, and under the thyroid that was taken out. The doctor spent that extra two hours scraping the cancer out. She said we are lucky Courtney is able to talk and swallow because of how close she was to these necessary actions while scraping the cancer.
On 11/19 the pathology from that surgery came back with a worse prognosis than expected. It was stage 3 cancer and aggressive.
The next steps are for her to get RAI, which will make her radioactive for a few days and she will have to have this done more than once.. we are hopeful for a good prognosis after RAI treatment because failure isn't an option for us.
Courtney has been through a lot and is working with a dance teachers salary. She still has a lot to go through... Even after her SUCCESSFUL RAI treatments she will be in and out of doctors offices to make sure she stays healthy with expensive scans to make sure the RAI is working.
