After 40 years, the Wild Horse Inmate Program in Cañon City is ending. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) chose not to renew its contract with the Colorado Department of Corrections, citing rising costs. The facility, which currently cares for about 2,300 horses from herds like Sand Wash Basin, East Douglas, and Little Book Cliffs, will close in November. Roughly 100 Colorado horses are being prioritized for adoption.
For the Love of Aria Foundation, known for its dedication to adoption and welfare programming, will be adopting horses directly into their own program, bringing them under the foundation’s direct care to provide lifelong safety and keep family bands together whenever possible.
Each horse’s annual care can exceed $5,000, and your contribution ensures they receive the dignity, space, and safety they deserve. We’re raising $20,000 to help FTLOA cover transport, feed, boarding, vet care, and rehabilitation for a minimum of four horses.
Thanks to a generous $5,000 donation match, every dollar you give goes twice as far to help Colorado’s mustangs find safety and freedom.
As a reminder, For the Love of Aria Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and all donations are tax deductible. EIN: 84-2492909
This is more than a fundraiser—it’s a lifeline for Colorado’s wild horses. Your support, especially during this $5,000 match, helps ensure these mustangs are not forgotten. Every dollar matters. Every horse matters.
