On Tuesday, my uncle, Paul Evans, was tragically killed when he unwittingly became entangled in a high speed police pursuit just minutes from his home. The suspect collided with his car head on, killing him, likely on impact. My uncle was a genuinely good man. In the words of his surviving sisters, "Paul was a gentle giant, standing at 6'5" inches. He was a sweet, smart, and funny, man...a good man, a husband, a dad, a prolific reader, and a collector of music." Above all else, he made it no secret that he cherished his wife and family, as he gushed about them often. Always thoughtful, gifts for his wife that were ordered weeks ago, have been arriving in the mail for their upcoming anniversary. His final actions were a remarkable demonstration of the unwavering love he had for his family. To keep his son, who sat in the passenger seat of the car on that fatal evening, out of harm's way, he swerved the car, maneuvering it in such a way that he would be taking the brunt of the impact himself. Thankfully, as a result of this selfless act of love, my cousin walked away with only broken ribs.
His devoted wife Cathy has lost her soul mate and is left wondering how life will continue on. In addition to the incredible pain that she is enduring, she is also left with worries of losing the house. With the loss of one income, the mortgage and all of the monthly bills still need to be paid. My goal is to cover these expenses for the next several months.
If your are able to, please help me in eliminating one worry for my aunt during this very difficult time. Every little bit helps.
