On Halloween, with baby Lucy in her arms, Carrie fell, breaking her knee cap and the opposite foot. She kept Lucy safe, but now cannot walk and cannot currently work.

This family has had nearly every hardship imaginable lately. Jake is just at the end of his medical education, a phenomenally challenging and harrowing endeavor all by itself. Now he is interning, working the application and interview process for residency, while holding down several extra side jobs. The baby just went through heart surgery. The two older girls have had to move, change schools, be wonderfully strong young women. Carrie just started a brand new job as a teacher, and has very few sick days, some of which were used for Lucy's hospitalization. They live in New York City, with no extended family living in that town.
