Helping Captain Dale after Creek Fire
Donation protected
Captain Dale Livesey, our beloved Mill caretaker since 2013, has lost his pirate ship home in the Creek fire which has come through the Mill. Dale evacuated amidst crazy smoke with his 2 kitties (Kevin Big Nose and Sydney Zoom Zoom Ruckus) on Sunday Sept 6th, with few belongings. Somehow, he managing to grab our newly purchased SMAI chainsaws--Even in that critial moment, Dale was thinking not just of himself, but about the Mill.
His trailer is gone, his garden is gone, Sami, his camp jeep, is gone. All burnt. He will need to create a new home, and he has helped so many of us, both individually, and by his work at the Mill. He built the beautiful pagoda on the west side of the lake, the scrap shack for silly people who arrive without bedding, the walking ramp into the lake from Balkan side, a garden which has always contributed food, herbs and eggs to meals, he created the memorial booth of others we have lost over time, his kitties have delighted us all with their antics, and he has annually hosted his most entertaining Pirate Party during the Mill, allowing us all to unleash our inner pirate spirit.
When a fire is a lower intensity it jumps around rather than burning everything. It will skip an area, burn another, create weird black patterns in the grass, torch a house and leave the one next to it standing. This fire spared many of the Mill's buildings, including the new Cantina and the Coffee House; and based on the photographs we have it looks like the land itself will recover. But the fire took every part of Dale's home.
Dale is humble, he didn't even realize people could help him through GoFundMe. Can you pitch in what you can to enable Dale to create a new home?

This fund has been created by Mill community members, specifically Vineeta, Sierra, Megan, Rosie and Georg. All funds are going directly to Dale to create a new home. It is supported by the SMAI Board, which has set up a separate gofundme for rebuilding the Mill land .
Please also see Tim Coates gofundme page --he also lost everything in the fire, is a dear friend of Dales, and former Mill Board President.
