ORIGINAL DETAILS
Bree and Tristan are going through a very difficult and high-risk pregnancy. Bree has a rare condition called Chronic Histiocytic Intervillositis (CHI). It affects the placenta and can limit how much oxygen and nutrients reach the baby. CHI is so rare that Bree is only the 64th patient her specialist at Mount Sinai Hospital has ever treated.

Bree’s first pregnancy was also affected by this disease, but they didnt know this right away resulting in Bree being admitted to Mount Sinai where she had to be monitored for four days and given medications and injections to ensure her son arrive safely. He was born very early at 1 lb 14 oz, a direct result of the disease impacting the placenta. Because of this history, Bree’s medical team is extremely careful this time.

Right now, Bree is already in Toronto to be close to Mount Sinai. She is at a point in her pregnancy where her placenta has a hard time keeping up with the baby’s growth and delivering enough oxygen and nutrients. This puts both Bree and her baby girl at risk.

Because of CHI, Bree’s baby is essentially guaranteed to be premature. The goal is to try to keep her inside as long as the placenta stays healthy enough — as long as it doesn’t compromise Bree’s health or the baby’s. If the placenta weakens, if her health declines, or if the baby shows signs of not getting enough oxygen or nutrients, she will need to deliver early.

To give the baby the best possible chance, Bree must stay near Mount Sinai for continuous monitoring. It is no longer safe to travel back and forth from home.

Why They Need Help

  • Staying in Toronto for an unknown amount of time brings many unexpected costs:
  • A safe place to stay (Ronald McDonald House or a hotel when needed)
  • Food and daily living expenses
  • Travel and parking
  • Extra childcare costs for their 17-month-old
  • The normal waiting period before Tristan’s EI begins

Even with travel grants, these expenses add up very quickly.

How Your Support Helps

Your donation will help cover:

  • Accommodation during Bree’s required stay in Toronto
  • Food, groceries, and basic essentials
  • Travel and parking
  • Childcare support
  • Costs during Tristan’s EI waiting period
  • Unexpected needs as Bree’s care continues and their baby girl arrives early

Every contribution helps lift a huge weight off their shoulders during this frightening and unpredictable time. It allows Bree and Tristan to focus fully on her health and on giving their baby girl the safest arrival possible.

If you’re unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser also makes a meaningful difference.

Thank you for surrounding this family with support, compassion, and hope.
