Most of you know Billi as a fun, outgoing person that everyone loves the moment they meet her but unfortunately over the last 7months she has been in the fight for her life.
Last summer as Kaelyn(her youngest daughter) was busy planning her wedding, Billi was scheduling surgery to remove her gallbladder but worried it was too close to the wedding and she wouldn’t be able to attend. On August 8, 2022 she went to the hospital for what she was told was an “easy, simple surgery”and was assured she’d be good to attend the wedding in September. The surgery was performed and she was released the same day. However a week later she was experiencing unbelievable pain and was taken back to the hospital where a CT scan found the surgeon had missed a few stones and so was rushed again into surgery that night. An ERCP was performed as well to make sure the bile duct was not blocked. This is where her life instantly changed for the worse.
During the ERCP the doctor perforated her bowel but was unaware of the puncture. In recovery my mom knew that something was wrong as she felt not only pain but also fevers. But the hospital staff told her that she was “bloated” and completely fine. My aunt was able to go to the hospital and was finally able to convince the staff to perform a CT scan to make sure there were not other problems. The scan revealed the perforation meaning all of the matter from her colon had been leaking into her abdomen causing severe infection and making her critically ill. She was again rushed into emergency surgery and the surgeons attempted to repair the perforation. But those efforts proved unsuccessful and my mom went through a horrible series of having surgery, being assured that the perforation had been repaired, only to discover that it had not been repaired and continued to leak into the abdomen causing infections and abscesses. After countless surgical attempts to repair the perforation and after suffering a second perforation of her intestine by a vacuum pump left in her abdomen after surgery, we requested second opinions on the best options for my mom.
She was finally approved for and transferred to a hospital in Sacramento. The surgeons there were able to close the perforation without performing a colostomy (a great fear for my mom) and she has finally returned home to Fresno. My mom is a WARRIOR, she’s UNSTOPPABLE, STRONG and COURAGEOUS. She has been in the hospital for 7 months fighting for her life. She was unable to travel to attend my wedding and I cancelled my honeymoon so I could stay for the next 4 months so I could be with her to be her voice and to help her fight for her life, spending multiple holidays including Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years in the hospital.
We pray that their efforts will prove successful and that she is finally on the mend (we have been assured of that countless times in the past). We just want our mom and grandma back healthy. We miss her so much. The reason I want to post this is because there’s hope & after suffering from stress and despair for so long we continue to have faith in our Lord, Jesus, and want my mom to know she’s not alone in this battle and we’re here to help her get back on her feet.
One thing about my mom is that she hates asking for help but If you are able to donate to help my mom get a jump start on getting back on her feet after losing everything and having to start over, we would appreciate it. If you can’t donate and we understand, we would ask that you say a prayer of healing for her. We appreciate your thoughts and kindness more than any words could express. Love always, a loving daughter.
