Our dear friend, Becky Hockersmith, is facing something no one is ever fully prepared for.

Her mom, Ann Hockersmith, was diagnosed with dementia in 2016. In 2017, Ann’s condition worsened and it became clear that she would need full-time care, advocacy, and constant presence. Without hesitation, Becky made the incredibly difficult decision to resign from her job so she could be there for her mom every single day.

This wasn’t an easy choice. It meant walking away from her income, her routine, and her stability — but family came first.

Becky chose to stay home and take care of her mom herself. Because she did that, she had been getting paid to care for her, instead of getting a home care nurse or send her to a nursing home. With that said, once her mom were to pass away, the payments would immediately stop.

Last night, Becky’s dear mom passed away.

This leaves Becky in a situation without an income. It will not be easy for her to find a job so quickly in order to pay for her rent, basic needs for herself and her animals.

That’s where we can step in.

We are raising funds to help Becky cover rent and basic needs until she is able to provide for herself. We all know that it takes time to find a new job and then it seems like weeks till you get that first paycheck.

If you know Becky, you know how much she shows up for others. She has been there for me so many times and I know for a fact she has been there for so many other people as well. Now it’s our turn to show up for her!
