Helping Audrey Hear

Hello y’all! After becoming homeless I have slowly started to get back on both feet but the cost of a new hearing aid is keeping me back right now. My current hearing aids don’t have the functionality that I need to work for me especially since they got damaged beyond repair. I have a rare form of hearing loss that’s single sided called Reverse Slope Hearing Loss or RSHL which means low tones like male voices or bass notes are really hard for me to hear. Out of 38 Million Hard of Hearing people in both the USA and Canada only about 3 Thousand people have RSHL. This type of hearing loss is very difficult to treat and on top of that my speech recognition is very low. Did you know that un treated hearing loss can lead to anxiety, social isolation, depression, and many other health issues. The worst part is that a vast majority of health insurance including mine don’t cover hearing aids because they consider them “cosmetic”.

After my most recent visit to the Audiologist I was told a new hearing aid would cost me $2k out of pocket and the only financing options that were available to me I was denied for since the debt I occurred while being homless after being abused was starting to rack up. I figured it was time that I reached out since work and life are getting harder without a good hearing aid to help me through the day and it would be months and months until I would finally have enough saved back to buy a hearing aid since a large portion from each of my paychecks has to go to the debt from my previous apartment since my ex roommate refused to help pay for it.
