Helping Asher Find His Voice

Donation protected

One year ago, I had never heard of apraxia. I knew only that my bright, handsome, silly two-year-old had a vocabulary of just five words and that he showed none of the signs of the typical speech delays I read about online. After numerous evaluations, tests, and visits to doctors, specialists, and therapists, we now know that we're dealing with severe apraxia , a rare motor speech disorder . While Asher can understand everything that is said to him, his brain struggles to coordinate the muscles needed for use in speech. Imagine the frustration of knowing what you want to say but being unable to form the words you need to communicate.

After a year of intensive speech therapy, Asher has made tremendous strides, but his speech is still far behind his classmates'. He has been offered an amazing opportunity in that he has been accepted into the Atlanta Speech School for next year. This is wonderful news except that our family's recent health struggles have left us scrambling to pay the tuition for him to attend. Our insurance covers less than half the sessions he needs. In addition, he needs daily practice, something not easily achieved in outpatient therapy. This is where you come in. Can you help this precious boy find his voice and attend school in a community that will help him grow and thrive?
