HELPING ANNY TO OVERCOME LUPUS: A JOURNEY OF HOPE AND HEALING

My name is Sonia Ramirez, Anny's Aunt, and I come to you with a plea that is close to our hearts. Anny, a brilliant and courageous 19-year-old girl, is fighting an unrelenting battle with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis. These autoimmune conditions cause the immune system to attack healthy tissue, leading to inflammation in the body.

Any was diagnosed with these devastating illnesses at the young age of 12. Since then, she has faced ups and downs, but the past year has been marked by constant and critical flare-ups and actually she is hospitalized due to a general decompensation as her Lupus has re activated. In our country,Honduras, we have tried different treatments with high doses of medications that not only seem ineffective but put at risk other vital organs like her heart, kidneys and liver. Lately treatments and Infusions don't seem to be given Anny the quality of life she deserves.

Anny's own words paint a poignant picture:

"Hi, my name is Anny, and I have systemic lupus erythematosus. I was diagnosed at a very young age, and it hasn't been an easy journey. The worst thing about having flare-ups is not being able to carry on a normal and happy life. I suffer a lot of pain in my joints; sometimes, I can't get out of bed. I get sad for not attending parties with my family or friends. I'm studying biomedical engineering, which has been a challenge to keep up with. I just hope that doctors find a way to make me better with a new treatment, which hasn't been possible in my country for a year and a half."- ( Anny Ramirez, august 2023)

Due to the limited medical conditions in our country. We have been looking for possibilities to get a second opinion on Anny's condition and treatment in the US. We have made contacts with a well-known rheumatologist specialized on Anny's condition, and is willing to evaluate her and hopefully find a way to offer better treatment at the Dynamic Arthritis Care Clinic in Houston, Texas. USA. She has an appointment on october 2023. But the costs for the evaluation and analysis are unaffordable to her parents, who are already dealing with her little brother's brain tumor treatment, and they don't have medical insurance in the US.

Anny's dream of becoming a biomedical engineer and leading a normal, happy life is within reach, but we need your support.

Mi nombre es Sonia Ramirez, Tía de Anny y acudo a ustedes con una petición de todo corazón. Anny, una joven valiente y brillante de 19 años, está librando una batalla constante contra el Lupus Eritematoso Sistémico que le causa artritis reumatoide y otras complicaciones, condiciones autoinmunitarias en las que el sistema inmune ataca tejidos sanos, provocando inflamación en el cuerpo.

Anny fue diagnosticada con esta enfermedad, a los 12 años. Desde entonces, ha enfrentado altibajos, pero el año pasado ha estado marcado por exacerbaciones constantes y críticas y actualmente se encuentra hospitalizada tras una reactivación de su Lupus.

En Honduras, se han intentado diferentes tratamientos con altas dosis de medicamentos, que no solo parecen no funcionar sino que ponen en riesgo otros órganos vitales, como el corazón, riñones y el hígado.

Palabras de Anny:

"Hola, mi nombre es Anny y tengo Lupus Eritematoso Sistémico. Me diagnosticaron a una edad muy temprana y no ha sido un camino fácil. Lo peor de los brotes es que no puedo llevar una vida normal y feliz. Sufro mucho dolor en mis articulaciones; a veces, no puedo levantarme de la cama. Me entristece no asistir a fiestas con mi familia o amigos. Estoy estudiando ingeniería biomédica, lo cual ha sido un desafío. Solo espero que los médicos encuentren una manera de mejorar mi situación con un tratamiento nuevo, algo que no ha sido posible en mi país durante un año y medio. Debido a las limitadas condiciones médicas de nuestro país, Honduras. Hemos estado buscando posibilidades de una segunda opinión en el exterior. Estableciendo contacto con un reumatólogo reconocido especializado en la condición de Anny, en la Clínica Dinamica para el tratamiento de la artritis en la ciudad de Houston, Texas.

El médico esta dispuesto a evaluarla y, con suerte, encontrar una manera de ofrecer un mejor tratamiento y le ha brindado una cita para el mes de octubre 2023. Los costos de la evaluación y el análisis son inacvesibles para sus padres, que ya enfrentan el tratamiento del tumor cerebral de su hermanito, y no cuentan con seguro médico en los EE.UU.

El sueño de Anny de convertirse en Ingeniera Biomédica y llevar una vida normal y feliz está al alcance de la mano, pero necesitamos su apoyo.
