Mabel has been moved to safety! 

The funds raised so far have partially helped to pay for this, with H.A.L.O. contributing the remainder. This will be an ongoing program to save as many dogs as we can from the awful existence in local shelters which are overcrowded and underfunded meaning the animals do not get the proper basic welfare they deserve. Hi, Kerry and Jodie here (mum & daughter), and for the last 18 months we have been raising money to help feed the street dogs (and cats) of Türkiye.

Along with Corinne, a good friend we have made along this journey, we have pooled resources and formed H.A.L.O., through which we raise funds not only to ensure the animals are fed, but with the barbaric new laws ridding the Turkish streets of dogs, we now also promote adoption and aim to rehome as many of these poor unfortunates as we can.

The adoption process is not cheap as we initially need to pay for the microchip, blood tests and vaccinations. Therefore we are looking at £200+ before we even start!

For this fundraiser, we aim to walk 100km throughout June. Sounds pretty easy, but in reality we are a couple of lazy couch potatoes and this is going to require some real effort on our part!

The motivation comes from a beautiful dog we found on our first trip to Türkiye.

This is Mabel’s plight.

Living in a picnic park either since birth or since she was dumped there, Mabel actually had an ok existence compared to some - throughout the summer months visitors to the park fed her scraps and throughout the winter months H.A.L.O. visited daily to provide love and hugs along with a good feed!

That all changed on 11 March 2025 when most of the dogs at the park were rounded up, thrown in a van and dumped at the local shelter. They’d gone from complete freedom to being caged indefinitely. Many of the dogs have since gone missing and their whereabouts are unknown. Those that are still there are struggling. Mabel included.

We now have the opportunity to move Mabel to an animal rescue in southern Türkiye. We are happy to personally pay her ongoing boarding costs once she is there, but need help to raise the initial costs. If we can raise enough we may be able to move one or more others there too.

Every single penny donated will help to lessen the suffering of these beautiful souls, who desperately need and deserve a much better way of life.
