Our family was recently forced to make one of the most difficult decisions one ever has to make.
My grandma is 80 years old and recently fell off of her bed while she was sleeping. She was not able to brace herself and she broke her nose, fractured her neck and had a huge hematoma on her forehead. She had been going back and forth between the hospital and rehab center for over a month
Nana is too fragile to go through any surgical procedures so there is really nothing we could do to repair her injuries. She has been in a neckbrace and she will never be able to have it taken off.
It has been very difficult, for the whole family, to see the amount of pain Nana has been going through.
To help ease some of her pain, we had to make the difficult decision to enter her into Hospice, so she may be able to transition as peacefully as possible.
This basically allows for medication to be given to her to help her deal with the pain, even though it will, unfortunately, eventually lead to organ failures.
We will have to provide Hospice care at home for as long as Nana fights to stay with us.
This care will have to be provided 24 hours a day.
Everyone is trying to do all they can to help care for Nana and also pay for a Hospice care taker to care for Nana 4 shifts a week.
Nana’s insurance will not cover the Hospice care taker and this will all have to be paid for out of pocket by the family
We all know that nothing in California is cheap and this will be a great added expense for the family to have to come up with.
We really hate having to ask but if anyone has anything to contribute, no amount is too small, it will be a GREAT help to the family during this difficult time. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH and please keep Nana and our family in your prayers.
