Dear Community, Faithful and Humane Friends,
I am contacting you because a fellow Algerian needs help due to a massive heart attack.
Mr. Fethi Malti is 60 years old and single; he is currently very sick with many health issues that have necessitated several admissions to the hospital in Houston, Texas the past months.
He has been in the U.S since 1983. He only had an I.D card that has expired; therefore, his bank account is frozen, even with a very low balance. The State of Texas issued I.D card renewal was canceled.
For the past 25 years, he has been sheltered, living in a Houston where he works as a cleaning person and caretaker. He managed to live on this survival mode, without seeking to be assisted. This speaks on his strong character, integrity values, and work ethics.
As the proverb says "when it rains, it pours”: During his hospitalization, the employer ended his job and his housing.
He is facing the challenge of life with neither papers, nor health insurance. Moreover, having no income money for living expenses such as housing, food as well as 12 medications for heart, diabetes, etc.
Going back to Algeria is not an option for him because his parents passed away; he has severed all home relations for a long time. Also, leaving in his medical condition to return to Algeria is a death sentence.
The Houston Algerians community is helping him; they are getting overwhelmed and are needing help from the community. They found a temporary rental solution and are helping him for his health care through the E.R for lack of insurance or a primary care doctor. Public assistance is not available to him.
Many of us are concerned about Fethi's welfare. At this point, we want to help him for a short-term solution, get him stabilized health wise, and cover his living expenses until we find a long-term solution.
