Last night, 11/7 around 9:30 pm, my family member, Alex, was the victim of a random act of violence, and I am trying to do anything I can to help him during this time. He had just gotten off work and was 15 minutes from home, driving down Highway 20 towards Marysville, when a truck or SUV passed him. Suddenly, he saw something flying towards him in his headlights, and it crashed through his windshield and struck him in the face. We now know that it was a frozen water balloon that was thrown at his car, and per all the nurses and first responders, he is very lucky to be alive. Thankfully, he was able to control his vehicle and pull over, avoiding oncoming traffic or the irrigation canal next to him. He called me after calling 911, and I was able to find him on the highway and get his vehicle to his home thanks to a very kind CHP officer and our good friends who saved the day.
However, due to the severity of Alex's injuries, he had to be taken to the emergency room even though he is uninsured. His eyes were full of chunks of glass and had to be flushed multiple times, and he now has multiple eye wounds that require around-the-clock numbing and antibiotics. We are watching him carefully to make sure his now blurry vision doesn't get worse. Alex's job depends on him being able to drive, and with his eyesight blurred, I know he is very stressed about the immediate future and the medical bills he just had to accrue. As everyone who met him last night can attest to, Alex is the least deserving of something like this. His first response when I told him I was so sad this happened to him was, "At least it was me and not someone who couldn't take a hit to the face. Imagine had it been an older person or a young kid. They might not have even survived. If it was going to happen to anyone I'm glad it was me".
That's the kind of person he is.
Just being able to get his car fixed and pay down any of that medical bill would be a blessing.
Thank you for your help.
