Thursday February 13th, Adjouba Ouattara went to his doctor for a routine check up. His blood pressure was 242/140, so he was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. They did several tests including bloodwork, a CT scan and urinalysis. They were worried about brain bleeds. He was cleared of brain issues, but every person there did not know how he was alive. They found that he had 'Chronic Renal Insufficiency' and we were discharged for him to be treated as an outpatient to save some money (as he does not have health insurance or OHIP).
On Friday February 21st, he got a call from the kidney specialist, stressing that he had to get to a hospital immediately as his kidney function was only at 10-15% and that if he didn't go he'd be in full renal failure.
He's been in the Hospital since then. Just took a kidney biopsy, and we are waiting to see what the next steps are.
It has been around $2000 a day not including his previous visit to emergency or his outpatient visit the other day. The visit at emergency was $1000 at least (the CT scan or the tests may have not been included-we are waiting on the bill but we’re told if we did NOT proceed with care that he would die).
He is a hardworking individual who contributes to society in many ways. He is down on his luck and I want to help him. It has not been easy for him to be so far away from his family, but he is a loving friend and partner. While we are proud people and don’t like asking for help, we are facing uncertainty in the upcoming times. While Canada is a lovely place to live, healthcare is very expensive.
Thank you so much for the time.
