Helping a young family from Cobargo.
Donation protected
2 years ago the Rixon-Gosch family took out a loan and bought a house on 20 acres at Wandella 15 km out of Cobargo. They lost their house and belongings when the Badja fire swept through on 31 th of December. They have house insurance of $120,000 and their claim and new Development Application will take many months. Toby, Nicole and their 4 yr old daughter Layla, returned to their block on Monday to begin their new lives, and are currently living in a borrowed camper trailer. Fortunately the only building left standing was the toilet. They also have 2 steel tanks of rainwater. My friend Gary, who is a CFMEU carpenter, visited them yesterday to see how he could assist. They made the decision to build a 6x6mtr timber framed shed on a concrete slab. Which will be fitted out as a self contained living quarters. All labour will be donated. So, we need around $1000 for the slab and a further $14,000 to build the shed on it. My role in this endeavour is to manage the funding. I live in Brisbane and have permanent power and internet whereas Gary, who lives in Bermagui does not.
