Five weeks ago, Robert “Bob” Johnson and his wife Sonia were out running errands when Bob suffered a fall. What followed was a rapid and devastating decline no one could have predicted. Bob was in and out of the hospital over the next couple of weeks, quickly losing his memory and his ability to remain independent.

Bob was later diagnosed with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) — a rare and fatal neurological disorder that causes rapid degeneration of the brain. CJD is a prion disease, related to conditions such as mad cow disease, and carries an average life expectancy of approximately six months. Tragically, Bob’s condition progressed far more quickly.

Bob spent his final five weeks at Autumnwood, and on December 18, 2025, he passed away — just seven weeks after his fall.

Bob was always smiling. He was a kind soul who loved the outdoors. Though a city boy at heart, Sonia introduced him to camping, and it became a passion they shared for over 30 years. They loved it so much that they worked there together for the last 20 years. Bob also worked for UPS and was a manager at the airport.

Above all, Bob deeply loved his children and was devoted to his wife, Sonia. Her world has been turned upside down by this sudden and profound loss.
