Hi, my names Jordan Cullum and I am one of Connor’s best friends.
If you know Connor McCallum you may or may not know he’s lived with Crohn’s disease since he was 11 years old. He’s been quietly battling Crohn’s for 20 years. Managing it largely on his own without ever letting it dictate the way he lives.
On March 20th while surprising his sister Hailey in Edmonton for her birthday, Connor was hospitalized. He underwent major emergency colorectal surgery that left him there for 24 days. Not being able to eat, drink or even walk by himself, Connor’s world has been turned upside down.
Not being able to eat has done a number on Connor’s body. He lost 35+ pounds in three weeks, leaving his body incredibly weak. He now faces a long and challenging road ahead. Connor is back in Calgary where he is bedridden. He is receiving medical assistance at his home with multiple in home nurse visits each day. Connor isn’t able to do anything himself and needs constant care.
This experience is a life-altering moment. Connor is facing significant changes to his daily life, his health, and what his future will look like.
Connor has always been the kind of person who shows up for others without hesitation. Asking for help is not in his nature.. But right now, he truly needs the support of those around him.
Connor is not eligible for long term disability with his employment. He doesn’t have access to sick pay or other benefits and will be off work for an unknown amount of time.
We understand that not everyone is in a position to give, and that is okay. Even sharing this or keeping Connor in your thoughts means a lot. For those who are able, any support, big or small, will go a long way in helping him through this crazy time.
Thank you!
