On Friday night, December 9, my dear friend, Alaa Jorani returned to her shop Lamiaa Botanicals in the Shaw neighborhood to drop off inventory from the May's Night Market @ City Foundry. As she was about to leave, two cars pulled up, and six heavily armed men jumped out and carjacked her at gunpoint. We are beyond grateful that no one was harmed.

Lamiaa Botanical opened its long-awaited brick-and-mortar location at 1907 Thurman in September 2022. Since then, Alaa has quickly become a beloved member of the Shaw neighborhood community. She has put her heart and soul into the botanical shop, and the loss of her only mode of transportation has proven to be more than she can remedy on her own. She has been an incredible friend to me and countless others, and we are determined to help her buy a car and move past this unsettling and stressful situation.
