Amaya's Surgery Fund

Amaya needs your help! Due to a traumatic fall after leaping from a height by the Thames River, she requires a complicated surgery to fix her right paw which she dislocated and fractured. Without the surgery, she will be lame on her forearm, develope early arthritis, and potentially even require amputation. Prognosis for the surgery is good and because she is only 3 years old, she’ll likely be able to recover quickly with near normal movement post recovery.

Amaya is a rescue from California. She was found on the streets by the police without a microchip and no family to claim her.

Originally I was only planning on fostering her, but we bonded within the first hours of her being dropped off and she became my little shadow. Being a rescue, she arrived timid and with no training, but within a few months she blossomed into a confident and happy dog. She has a wonderful temperment now and befriends all people and dogs both large and small.

I felt capable of providing her with a good quality life so I made the adoption official and took action to relocate us both to London.

The visa, registration fees, and travel consumed my savings, but I anticipated working and being thrifty my first years in London. Unfortunately, within the first 3 months, Amaya ruptured her knee which required an expensive surgery (£2300)
that was NOT covered by my pet insurance.
The vet kindly allowed me to make monthly payment, however with a new outrageous bill coming (£3500) and my insurance not guaranteeing any coverage (at most £1500) they are asking to pay the previous bill in full. I've also been told there is also a 50% chance of injury to the other leg within the year that I should prepare for.  :(

One can never anticipate when these things will happen and I've been trying to do my best to give her a good life, but the timing of it all has been particularly unlucky.

Being here in London is an adventure I wouldn’t trade, however it can be difficult being so far from my family and friends back home. Here, Amaya is my family and also my best friend. We keep each other company and watch out for each other. She makes sure I get plenty of hugs and kisses when I get home and makes sure I get out even when I don't feel like it! Amaya brings a smile to the faces of everyone she meets whether it be at the park or on public transport. I feel like I’m the keeper of a furry friend that makes others happy. I always feel safe when I’m out with her because no one messes with a wolf dog!

Any donations toward her surgeries would be so much appreciated and will make a huge difference in both of our daily lives. Thank you so much in advance for any help! Every little bit helps.

xoxo
