Help Helena Learn to Run
Donation protected
I am 24 and in September 2019 I had my leg amputated, in an attempt to relieve symptoms of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS). This was against the current medical guidelines. A huge risk to take, but fortunately for me it worked and I currently have no symptoms of CRPS.
In the months that followed, I relearnt to swim, got back in rowing boat, learnt walk on a prosthetic and navigate slopes and stairs. At 6 months I decided I wanted to be able to do more! Ive still got a lot to learn and long way to go! One of those is learn to run, something I haven't been able to do since 2013. My NHS prosthetic is great, but it wont support higher intensity activities like running. A running blade is an expensive piece of equipment coming in at approximately £15,000 for my level of amputation. To raise that amount of money will take time....
In that time I hope to complete a series of challenges to help raise the money. That will also help with developing my fitness, skills and confidence on a prosthetic. With a running blade, I will be able to partake in different sports and challenges, from fun runs to triathlons...
I hope you can help!
I would like to reassure anyone, that in the event that I cannot use a running blade for any reason. All funds raised will go directly to the Arctic One Foundation.
