Most of you reading this already know Natalie and Nick. Many of you have even followed Haddie’s story closely. For those of you who don't or haven't: Nat and Nick welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Haddie Skye Noblet, on June 16, 2017. Shortly before discharging from the hospital, Haddie started to demonstrate some respiratory concerns. A series of tests revealed she had several congenital heart defects. After her first week of life, Haddie underwent heart surgery to repair a couple of her defects. After this initial surgery, Nat and Nick were told that after about a year, Haddie would need to undergo one more heart surgery to fix the remaining issues that could not be fixed in her first surgery.
Haddie had her second surgery April 10, 2018. She was expected to stay in the hospital one week and then be discharged home as a “brand new baby”. Haddie had a series of complications after her surgery in April and has been in the PICU ever since. She had vocal cord dysfunction and had a tracheostomy tube placed to help her breathe. Despite the respiratory support, she was still breathing very rapidly. Last week, to further investigate Haddie's rapid respiratory rate, she had a heart catheterization procedure. The results were troubling. On top of discovering two additional heart defects that will require another open heart surgery in the future, Haddie was found to be in heart failure due to a problem called diastolic dysfunction. Her team at St. Vincent does not know if they can fix this problem down the road. If it does not improve with time and support from medication, it is a potentially fatal condition. Therefore, Nat and Nick are going to start seeking second, third, as many opinions as they can to figure out how they can best help Haddie.
Nat and Nick are superhumans. They are the kind of people who want to help everyone before thinking about themselves. The only reason they even considered letting me ask people for help was because they think extra funding might increase the chances of Haddie's survival. Any support would be used toward seeking additional opinions from some of the top pediatric cardiac teams around the country. Money given to baby Haddie’s cause will help pay for medical, travel, and lodging expenses over the next several months as Nat and Nick seek out the next steps for Haddie’s well-being.
Thank you so much for all of your thoughts, prayers, and support throughout this long road. Please keep Nat, Nick, Haddie, and Maya on your mind as they take the next steps to save their beautiful girl.
