I’m Harvey. I was rescued two years ago by some amazing humans that took me in after I turned up in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. Hence, my name. I’m in need of rescue again, but this time my humans are struggling to provide the help I need.
I just found out I have cancer.
I started feeling bad on Friday, September 6th. I felt nauseated and had no appetite. Over the weekend my family tried to get me to eat something bland like chicken and rice so I did what I could and ate some of it. But by Monday morning I had been vomiting for 2 days so I went to my doctor. He took some blood and gave me a shot for nausea. Blood results showed that my liver was not functioning as it should. My levels were way out of normal range. So I was given some nasty pills to help my liver. Unfortunately, when I went home I continued to throw up and couldn’t keep the pills down. The next day, Tuesday, I went back to the doctor and they admitted me to the hospital. I needed more fluids and tests. After several days in the hospital I was able to keep a little bit of food down so I got to go home to my family, but the doctor wanted me back the next day for an ultrasound of my organs. On Friday I had the ultrasound but had to stay overnight again because the results were not in and I needed to be on fluids and continued meds since I was not getting any better. My liver levels were getting worse even with the treatment. Finally, this morning (Saturday) we got the news that I have golfball size lymph nodes all around my liver and gallbladder. My doctor referred me to a specialist at Gulf Coast Veterinary Hospital where I am currently a patient. The doctors are trying to stabilize me with very aggressive treatment before they exasperate my lymph nodes on Monday — if I can make it that long. They are currently giving me IV fluids, liver meds, blood, plasma and pain meds.
I am strong but I am in need of help right now. I am pretty independent and I normally wouldn’t ask for help, but my medical bills are almost $8,000 already and more to come if I can survive the weekend. If I can make the weekend then I’ll likely start chemotherapy right away. This my humans are told will push the number to $20,000. Again, I don’t like asking for help but please do if you can. Any amount is greatly appreciated.
I’ve never met a human that I didn’t like and I hope to meet many more! Thank you for reading my story. Whether you’re able to donate to my cause or not please click the share button and let others know. :0)
