Hi friends, my name is Harper, which means pleasant and brave. I love food, playing with friends, going to the park, rolling in the cool grass, all things pink, and most of all, I love to love my mama because she loves me most.
Harper is my sweet, loving, and happy girl.
She is very pleasant.
Even more, she is very brave.
Recently Harper was in an unfortunate car accident, scraping her legs and hips and a severe wound on her head where there is now an extensive amount of skin damage and some muscle loss.
Harper was adopted from the Seattle humane society in April. I didn't plan on coming home with a dog but I knew I had to have this sweet girl as soon as I saw her. I later found out she had been up for adoption only ten minutes prior to me meeting her, it was meant to be. Harper was found on the streets of Wenatchee. It was evident right away she would need extra love and attention to help ease her fears most likely brought on by abuse. In five months Harper has come so far. She loves meeting new people and fur friends everywhere she goes.
I was out of town when Harper broke off her tie out, ran into the street and was hit by a car on Maple valley highway. Nobody stopped to see if she was ok. Harper continued to run and was missing for five hours before she showed up on the back porch of my dad's house whimpering and barely able to move.
That night Harper was rushed to the emergency vet. Unable to pay the thousand dollars and without being provided a payment plan Harper was turned away without any medical attention. The best they could offer was sterile gauze, saline solution and the equivalent of ibuprofen for dogs. Resulting to the only option left Harper was brought home where a friend with nursing experience cleaned out and bandaged her wounds as best she could.
The next step was to take Harper to her primary vet where she already was covered by insurance. We decided to go forward with the surgery but I was called a couple hours later to be told they didn't feel comfortable moving forward due to a lack of equipment and expertise. At this point we had paid close to $500 on vet bills with no progress.
By recommendation of a friend I heard of a low cost vet in kent. After seeing Harper they felt confident that they could preform the surgery she needs to place back together the skin and muscle covering top of her head from her eye all the way back to her ear. Feeling relief to have found somewhere she can get the care she needs we scheduled the appointment for the 11th of October. In the mean time I've taken time off of work to be home to clean and change her bandages every two hours while seeking a care taker for Harper. Fortunately, a friend has volunteered her time to come a learn how to clean the wounds and bandage her up allowing me to return to my job while I work on finding a solution to paying for Harpers surgery. Searching every avenue I can, including payment plans, grants, borrowing money from friends or family and asking for an advance on my paycheck has lead me here. I am asking for you to please help me get Harper through this surgery and onto what will most likely be a long road to recovery. She has suffered enough and will forever be my brave warrior, but it's time she can begin her walk in joy, love, and above all else, a pleasant heart.
