Last December, Mia Arevalo, my youngest son's first grade teacher was diagnosed with breast cancer. I am raising funds that would go to cover her increasing medical expenses. Please, join me in helping Mia beat cancer!
Mia and her fiancé, Colin McQuillan, celebrated their engagement, and her 30th birthday, just a week before her diagnosis. Since then, she has been out of the classroom on medical leave.
Mia started chemotherapy in January, and, initially, responded well to treatment. However, the cancer progressed through her second chemotherapy treatment. Mia has been afflicted with a very aggressive cancer that does not respond well to therapies, with few treatment options to prevent recurrence. She will soon have surgery, and, after that, some combination of more chemotherapy, radiation, clinical trials and experimental treatment.
Mia is an outstanding teacher who chose her profession because of the joy she found in helping young children learn new things and make discoveries. Her students have missed their gentle and caring teacher.
Mia has faced her illness with courage and grace. Please, help her win this fight! No donation is too small!
Thank you for your generosity.

*Pursuant to Arlington Public Schools (APS) policies, donations from individuals associated with APS (to include employees, students and families) should not exceed $100 per year.
*Funds will be deposited into Colin McQuillan's (Mia's fiance) account, from where they will be used to pay for Mia's medical expenses.
