You can huff and you can puff ... but you won't blow this straw bale house down....
Ben & Ans moved to Tassie just over a decade ago with dreams to build a home out of straw bale.... after many years of planning and permits they have finally reached the bale stage!
Things were looking good, the house was taking shape and Ben and Ans could see real progress.... and then in Jan of this year fires swept across the region and put everything they had been working for under serious threat. Ben patrolled the half bailed house both day and night for two weeks watching and waiting for ember attacks.... it was a gruelling wait ......not knowing if everything they had worked so hard for was going to make it through unscathed.
And then.....immediately after the fires had settled and the threat was no longer imminent... Ben was diagnosed with cancer of the bladder.
So things have taken a turn for Ben & Ans, the treatment Ben has chosen to pursue involves alternative therapies which can cost in excess of $600-$800 a visit, to which there will need to be many.
Their amazing home, stands half finished with straw bales exposed heading into winter, desperate for a render finish to protect them and keep them from being destroyed by water damage.
So dear friends and family, I ask for your help for Ben & Anna...…
Please help Ben so he can afford to get the treatment he needs on this journey so he can rid himself of cancer, heal and recover.
Please help us raise some funds for them to use on purchasing building materials for their house.
Please help ease the stress of a half finished house and contribute any amount possible so that they can call upon qualified trades to help finish the render and protect their incredible home.
Any contribution you can consider is graciously accepted.
Ben & Anna would also appreciate some privacy during this time whilst they focus on the journey ahead, for anyone who wishes to stay updated and in contact with Ben, you can do so by joining this private facebook page (see below) where you are welcome to post messages, photos, stories and well wishes and where Ben & Ans may pop in to post updates from time to time.
