Give Some Love Back to My Hero-sal Chiavola
Donation protected
As many of you know, my dear dad has been diagnosed with lung cancer that has spread to his liver and a spot in his brain. He has Begun his treatment this week with a combo of radiation, chemo and immunotherapy. He has done extremely well so far and is feeling some relief.
A little about my dad, my hero. As a child my dad took full custody of my brother and I and raised us on his own. At this time with his love and kindness he started a group for divorcees for support.
During my 20’s my dad dedicated himself to caring for my uncle Joe, my Aunt Margaret (his sister) and my grandmother. As he cared for our family members who were all very ill, we suffered the devastating loss of my brother Michael. During this entire time he never wavered in taking care of me and supporting me with his love as I finished by Bachelors and a move to New Mexico.
He continued to give as he married Maureen and committed in the care of Maureen’s sister Joan (who passed of lung cancer at 40). Dad and Maureen took in Maureen s’s mother ( who was suffering from Alzheimer’s ) and they nursed her for as long as they could.
When I was young my dad worked at a gas station, He delivered bananas and cleaning buildings in the evenings to support us. In time he connected with work within churches and synagogues where everyone in these congregations fell for that Sal smile and dedication. He had much difficulties retiring finally 8 months ago not wanting to disappoint his sweet little St. Peter’s church in Greenport , New York.
I have learned so many lessons from my father, the biggest being the will to be strong among any challenge life may throw at you. This truly got through my most difficult time and to make it through when I suffered from a cardiac arrest and was blind.0
What my dad lacks in money, he has ten-fold in happiness and in dedication to others! I know of many of you by way of him touching your heart in some way. I ask that you might donate to help both dad and Maureen with the medical, daily necessities and help in getting Maureen a better running car for her to get back and forth to work. If you can reach out and give back to him it will truly touch his heart. Thank you so much for taking a moment to read this!
